Todays weigh in: 244.8
Its been a rough few weeks for me, lost my cat, lost my car, and a host of other negative things. The effect was total stress and a complete lack of disipline. I gained back 4 plus pounds, I eat total crap and didnt care.
Worst is how I am feeling... After jumping ship I felt well yucky, I felt I have let myself down some. The food that was my friend for so long didnt satisfy me (well maybe not the peanut butter cups, lol) but honestly it didn't feel good AFTER I ate the items, they were just kind of there.
But, today all that is over now. Its time to get back to work. To eat correctly and to work out again. I have a goal, I have to focus, and I have 4 months and 5 days to do it. Starting up again has been hard honestly (the "I will do it tomorrow" excuse comes to mind) but I am determined to get there. I don't want to fall back into the routine that I got me to 300 pounds for so long. I've feel so much better with what I have lost.
But like I have said, best not to concentrate on the whole path, but chucks. step one: get to 225 (now 20 pounds away), step two: 200 by October.
I can do this :D
I found myself at over 300 pounds, and finally started to do something about it! I made a goal for myself, to be 200 pounds when by the time I turn 41. This is my journal telling the story of how I (hopefully) get there.

5/11/2012: Dietbet Challenge II Results!
Drumroll please!!!!!
The results are in and the official weight is....
240.4 lbs!
For the second time, I have beaten the Dietbet challenge weight! For those keeping track, when I started my first Dietbet Challenge, my weight was 268!!! So thanks to using the challenges to motivate me, I have lost a total of 28 pounds!!! Will I do a third challenge? It's very possible, but I want to wait for a few weeks before I decide for sure.
Looking back, I have lost 70+ pounds since the beginning. I have come a long way, and I still have some distance to go, and this part will be much harder for sure. So to Combat this, I will break my goals into 3 'chucks':
Chunk 1: My pre-married weight - 225
Chunk 2: The BMI line between Obese and over - 209
Chunk 3: My goal weight by October 9th - 200
The only chunk with a set date is the final one, because thats what it has been all along.
From there I figure I have 151 days until the goal, thats 5 months to lose the 40 pounds, so it comes out to 8 pounds every 30 days or 2 pounds a week. Kind of where I am right now anyway!
As for my 5K goal, thats back on the board too... I am a little sore from some extreme walking on Tuesday & Wednesday, but my knee doesnt feel like it had been. So once again, I will hit the treadmill and prepare for that goal :)
For today: Enjoy my second win! I plan to have a small off day. Don't worry, I don't plan on eating everything in sight. But, I have to celebrate a LITTLE! hehehe
Got to go, I will have other challengers coming in to weigh out on the scale of destiny! Have a GREAT day :D

5/9/2012: Sorry I was away for a while
This Mornings weigh in (with clothes): 240.6
Dietbet days remaining: 2
Day remaining til Oct 9,2012: 152
Sorry I haven't been blogging for a bit, I was too busy with life to do it :D. Delhi is our little slice of heaven and we spent plenty of time there enjoying the surroundings. For those of you who don't know about Delhi, this is where the Misses & I wish to grow old sooner rather then later. Its 3+ acres of land with a little house in the middle of it, hidden from the road, its very private. we have a LOT of work to do on the grounds, but its a work of love. After all, once we get there, we just might need cheap hobbies for a while ;)
But in our current situation, its our get away. We like to relax and enjoy ourselves there, and we were VERY good about that! It's amazing what a few months of diet eating will do to your food desires, and the urge to indulge just wasnt there as bad. Sure I had some large Kahlua & Creams, but nothing worse then that. Amazing!
Yesterday I went with a friend of mine to the water front by shore parkway. Hes very fit, and what would be a workout for me is nothing but a relaxing walk for him. Still I kept up with him as best as I could, and would have done more if it wasnt for the weather. I dont mind having a drill instructor type pushing me around some ;).
This morning scale reading were definitly to my liking. When I woke up, I weighed in (naked mind you) at 237.8! The number you see above in the header is with my clothes on AND after breakfast!!! So long as I behave myself for the next few day, I should cruise to victory on my Dietbet challenge easily!!!
More importantly, my wife hit a new low, Insulin wise: 95! For me, thats just as good as any weight loss on her part! While we know it will bounce, it is nice to see her wake up with her numbers in the right place at least for one morning!
Well thats it for now, more to come soon, I promise I won't be away too long ;)

4/30/2012: Dieting in Delhi
This Mornings weigh in (with clothes): 243.8
Dietbet days remaining: 12
Day remaining til Oct 9,2012: 162
Delhi, my personal slice of the American dream, I have returned :D
This is where I come to "get away from it all". Its the grand escape from everything city related. Grass, trees, no noise or neighbors, hot tub, etc. But as far as things to do... there isn't much to do in this sleepy little place. In my opinion everyone needs to have a little place like this to come too. It's honestly another world.
The biggest problem (well recently anyway) is that this falls into an escape and or a vacation, and we like to eat and drink alot here! Our favorite supermarket, Price Chopper is here, and open 24/7 for your food desires! It's just overflowing with snacks and junk food. As usual, we shopped for our stay here, and thankfully left with only some sugar free pudding and fat free whip cream in the cart. Not bad for a couple of people who at one time would bring back almost as much in snacks as we did real food!!! We also have some "diet bombs" in the house to contend with... snacks from past trips, booze (lots of booze, this is Camp Sisco after all), etc. But with no corner store right downstairs, we should avoid the traps easily.
Though its our escape, this is not to say I am off my diet! I have brought our scale with me so I am reminded that I have a goal in mind. The immediate one is Dietbet, which ends on May 11th. I have 12 days to shed about 3 more pounds. I haven't been 100% on my diet this time around, but I feel its certainly easy to finish on the win side. Being 240 or less with 150 days to go will be terrific!!
After this round of Dietbet, my next small goal is to hit 225.. I have not seen that number on the scale in a VERY long time. Looking at 43.8 pounds is a tough number, but looking at it in chunks makes it easier in my opinion. 3.8 pounds now, 15 pounds from 240, and then poof 25 to get to my 200 pound goal! :D nice!!! At my current weight, looking at the avgerage weight loss a month also helps. with 5 months to go, thats just under 9 pounds a month :D totally do able!!
OK enough blogging, time to enjoy Delhi for what its worth. I will check in again soon!!

4/26/2012: San Jaun for a day :D
My header is on break today :)
A friend of mine offered me a great deal to go down to San Juan for a day. After making sure I had nothing going on, I took him up on it. All I have to say it was a terrific day, and I plan to do it again as soon as I can!
Getting on the plane at 7am, we took the 4 hour flight down. I have to say, I was impressed by how roomy the seat was. True, these seats were a bit oversized, but I have also become a bit smaller since the last time I was on a plane! I was very comfortable for the trip down.
Lets be honest, I didn't even THINK diet for the day. I wanted to experience some local food, have some drinks, and generally have a good time (which I did). The weather was terrible, it poured for most of the 6 hours we were there. But I didn't care, I was there to enjoy myself.
We started with lunch, it's amazing how Americanized the areas visited were. McDonalds, Subways, Wendy's. Chinese food, Sushi... it took us some time to actually find a place that served the local food we wantyed to enjoy. After all, if I wanted a cheeseburger, I could do that at home.
Beer, and food consumed, I bought an umbrella and we walked towards Old San Juan. I believe all the rain for the month came down on our heads, we were soaked to the bone. Hitting the Hotel that had a "Casino" in it, we decided to try our luck on some slots to wait out the rain. That worked, and we continued our walk.
It was a longer walk then my friend & I expected, but I didn't care, as far I was concerned, we were walking off our lunch ;). When we got to Old San Juan, It felt like they caught a bad case of "outlet fever". Guess, Coach, Radio Shack, and other stores lined the streets. It reminded me of if the New Orleans French Quarter collided with a mall. Where was the local crafts and wares? Oh well, I didnt care, I was in it for the moment, not for the shopping. I snapped some pics of what I felt were touristy scenes, and got a few things for my hunny. She's into little things, like magnets and shot glasses. That kind of shopping worked perfectly for this day trip, as it all justs fits in my carry bag.
Shopping and pics done, we headed to find a bar to get a little buzz before we headed back to the plane. We found Senor Frog, and THAT place just felpt like an Applebees's. Even the employees werent local! lol oh well, we had no time, and wanted to enjoy... down the hatch.
Hit a cab, headed back to the airport, and headed home. It was a smaller and older plane, and was a lot more crowded then our trip down. Still, even with the smaller seats, I was comfortable.
We touched down at 10pm. The trip over, It was an awesome experience. We traveled 8 hours for 6 hours in San Jaun, and we ended up ak JFK 16 hours after the trip began. And you know what? It was TOTALLY worth it!!! We plan on doing that again soon, just a different part of the world next time, and maybe an overnight.
As far as my diet went, I was B.A.D. lol I pulled out all the stops and eat whatever I wanted. Yes my body has to process yesterday, but I don't regret it. It was worth it. I'm back back on the diet today, and will get to where I need to be.
Have a great day!

Todays Weigh in (With clothes): 242.8(?)
Days til my 200 pound goal: 168
Days to Dietbet Weigh In: 17
So I heard from my mom that the Dietbet Interview is on NY1 Today. Havent seen it yet though, I am looking for a link on the website to post, but so far, no luck. Still no idea when the runner's world blog will come up. The whole process has been a fun thing to do, and all in the cause of losing weight :). Who would have thought that ~I~ would be a local diet icon ;)
My dietbet challenge is going well, I did weigh in less then my last post, but I had to take my bffl to the doctor, so the weight number is kind of hazy ;). I also see that lots of my challenger are doing well too! As I constantly state, this was not about money, but to get everyone to get some of those winter pounds off :D. Remember my friends I am rooting for you all!
From there, the diet is going well! I have been eating what I enjoy, just minus the carbs whenever possible. The Fat Head approach seems to be working well for me, and From the looks of it, I will be keeping it up. Looking forward to a bacon cheeseburger (no bun, that important) for lunch. As for dinner, I think pork chops are on the list. I still feel its really about the refined carbs more then fat.
On the exercise front, my knee is still tender, so I am still not using the treadmill. I don't like this one bit, but I need to heal up some or I will always pay for the days activities. It doesnt mean I am standing still however, I still go out and walk about a bit, or use the treadmill at a low walking speed.
Tomorrow is a definite off day, as I will be day tripping to San Juan. I plan to enjot some of the local food, and maybe a beer or two! Honestly, I am not a beach goer, but for this trip I will give it a try!
So have a great day, and I will talk to you on Thurday or so :D.

A Really OFF day yesterday
Todays Weigh in (With clothes): 248.8
Days til my 200 pound goal: 171
Days to Dietbet Weigh In: 20
5K training day: Day 0 (again, ugh)
I had an off day yesterday, and not a little one. It seemed like the perfect storm happend. No Sleep, knee was not even letting me get comfy on the treadmill, work was just not going to happen, etc. I just gave in. Like all days it started out good, keeping the carbs low, etc. but by the afternoon, I was in full I need it NOW mode, and I didn't have the desire to fight it. So I had things like a king size Reeses Peanut Butter Cup, and Pork Rinds, and to finish off, a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Med Fries, and 4 Chicken Nuggets (With a diet coke though lol)
But As I know from my past, this one day will not make or break me. I will get over a bad day, or a little cheat here and there, Its part of the journey. I actually dont like I let myself down, no morning after guilt. But just to be sure, I put my Dietbet weigh in the goal zone.
Speaking of goals, my knee is still hurting from last Monday. I will give it the weekend and not even attempt to get on the treadmill. I have enough walking and stuff to do so I wont be on my butt all weekend on the couch :D. I am hopeful for a full return on Monday :D
OK got my stuff to do, and places to be. Tonight is the Karaoke Wheel of Death and I have some shopping to do for it, etc. This will be fun!!!
Ciao!

"Fat Head" Movie
Todays Weigh in (With clothes): 247.8
Days til my 200 pound goal: 173
5K training day: Day 1
Its a good morning when I hit the scale and see some weigh loss I wasn't expecting :). The 3 pounds down from my Saturday weigh in made me very happy indeed. NOW I feel like I'm getting someplace. 47 .8 pounds... I got that ;) (sooo confident too I must say)
Yesterday I re-watched "Fat Head" the anti-movie of "Supersize Me" & I tend to agree with it some. I think a pure veggie diet is not what mother nature has intended for us (sorry vegan friends) I also believe that most of us have a more then a few brain cells rolling around in our heads and CAN make our own decisions. Unlike Spurlock, he actually shows the paperwork to back up his claim. While I would like to try the way he was eating (far more yummy then eating diet food), I might save that for after the Dietbet challenge. In his honor though, I did have a wonderful breakfast of 2 fried eggs, 2 slices of bacon, slice of cheese, and coffee with half & half, (w/ fiber of course) and you know what, it was all of 335 calories, and EIGHT carbs... 4 of those from the fiber. I feel FULL, you know, as in that I ate a nice meal. There might be something to this! :D. Check out his page if you like: http://www.fathead-movie.com/
I did the Runner's World interview yesterday. I enjoyed it, but kind of dropped the ball talking about myself, and not dropping in some Dietbet comments until I was coached by the PR firm to do so. Ugh. We see how that plays out, but I do think that Runner's World will tie it in somehow, as why would this guy want to talk to a random plus sized runner to talk with? I will link the article when it's up of course, and hopefully there is enough Dietbet verbage to make people happy.
Speaking of running, I think its another day of taking it easy. My knee is still flaring up at times, and I don't want to push it. I will get on the treadmill today and get some movement in, but nothing thats going to pound my knee too hard. I love being on the thing, and hate that I can't run like before w/o hurting my knee some. I so have plans to do a 5K this summer however. and I will do it too, I think i just need some more training.
OK off to move my body and maybe eat a cheeseburger, hehe. See you tomorrow!

4/18/2012: set backs, interviews, and more
Todays Weigh in (With clothes): 251
Days til my 200 pound goal: 174
5K training day: Day ~0~
I have decided that wearing my clothes is more realistic a measure, specially with my being in my 2nd dietbet challenge. After all, it's kind of silly to do one, get dressed, then weigh in again for another scale. The other thing I want to start doing is listing my goals at the top as well. It give me some motivation I think to at least see things are changing. In the case of the 5K, for now, its training, and will switch to a countdown when I sign up for my first run.
Sadly, no weight has been lost since we started the dietbet challenge. I agrro'ed my knee on Monday pushing myself on the treadmill, and now have been taking it easy somewhat. I am also a little under the weather, so I will not workout today, and just rest easy. Tomorrow hopefully with be back to more normal circumstances :)
As for the diet, Its going. I knew the wall was coming, and I feel its now here. I have some time still to lose my weight, but I think it will be much harder this time around. The Worst case senario is that my friends will get my $25. (Seriously, don't count on that money my friends, I will lose the weight, even if I have to live on my treadmill the last week to do it!)
I had a Phone Interview with Ted Spiker today, from Runner's world. I havent realized how far I've come until the last few day thinking about the interview. When I started dieting, I could barely run at all, this week, I pushed, but did run 4 miles no stop! I have a way to go, but I look forward to doing that 5k, and continuing my training. I even bought a pair of running shoes JUST for working out. Hows that for being serious :) I will link the interview when I see it come up!
While I thought I had this month to NOT find a reason to party, it seems, my family will find a way to gather and make me eat a big dinner lol. Tonight we will dine for my Aunt's birthday... This time though, I plan to eat light and/or just half of the meal. They are trying a new place, so I have no clue what the menu looks like, etc. I will have to play it by ear.
Over all, I am feeling quite good today, despite my setbacks. I was dealing with a little depression (This time of year is always bad for it for some reason) but at least I can focus more on my goald and try not to fall into it.
OK off to do my thing and relax some. Talk to you tommorow!

4/14/2012: Today is the day!
Today's weigh in: 247.8
Today is the start of round two in my Dietbet life. And this time, It's personal ;)
So far we have 9 people and $225 in the challenge, with another 4 expected over the weekend. We should have a great time doing this, and from the numbers about, I will need to lose about 10 pounds, +/- a few ounces... sweet, I can do that no problem.
I decided that this morning the Debster & I would enjoy a "last meal" prior to our weigh in. I had pancakes and bacon... yum, it was worth it. I plan to do a light workout today, just to keep up my momentum, and to burn off some of that last meal, lol.
A lot has happend over the week, we did a follow up interview with Dietbet for NY1, and I have a blog phone interview on wednesday (as now a new goal is training for my 1st EVER 5k run!). I like being on the ground floor with Dietbet, and would love to be one of there success stories. Who knows, maybe I can be like Jared is to subway, lol.
I'm in a great mood, being closer to 200 then 300 is a great place to be head space wise. I have a way to go, but at this point, I've lost 64 pounds, my clothes are HUGE on me, and I am getting lots of "WOW's".
So on with the challenge! Lets get moving!

4/12/2012: NY1 Interview today
Today's weigh in: 248.2
Yesterday, I couldn't believe I had crossed the 250 mark, but with day 2 of showing that number, I will accept it for what it is :D. The last time I was on a diet, I never broke that number, and now here I am.
I figured out that I have about 180 days to reach my goal of 200 pounds by October. This puts me in great spirits that I will be able to get there, because now my mind set is I have to lose FORTY + pounds, and not 50+.
On the workout front, I did a nice long run on the treadmill, 3 miles to be exact. No I didn't think I had it in me, but I have a new goal to go with my weight: to run in a 5K race. Lets be honest here, I won't win any metals or have the fastest time, but I just want to say that I did it!!
Some fun on behalf of Dietbet today. We have an interview today with NY1 at 2pm at Ripley's where we kicked off the challenge. Plus I have a blog looking for me to answer a few questions. So look for me on TV, lol. No autographs please ;)
Two days left for my challenge to start, we have 5 people in the pot, and hopefully more of them will get involved today! As of this morning, I have to lose only 9.9 pounds to win! (Giggle) Easy stuff, for I am a pro dieter now, hehehe.
So, off to workout, shower and then get ready to hit the city. Let you know how things go tomorrow!

4/11/2012: 249??? can't be
This mornings weigh in: 249.6
I don't believe that one bit. I must have not drank enough water yesterday and was dehydrated or something... I will say my weight is at 251 unless I see that number tomorrow
As for me, the knee is great, and I am back to moving my bacon at full speed. Yesterday I did some running, getting up to about 6 mph for a 1/2 mile. True its tough, but it was worth it.
Food was pretty low key as well. Diner was a nice piece of Cod with tomato and capers and stuff with a cup of rice pilaf. chicken noodle soup for an app. and yes I even had a donut and coffee for desert.
I totally see myself under the mark of 250 for the kick off of my personal Dietbet Challenge. So far, we have 5 people commited to the cause, and more to come in the next few days.
Off to do those things I need to do! see ya tomorrow!

4/10/2012: Knee is feeling awesome!
This mornings weigh in: 253.0
Good to see I got back on track yesterday. My knee felt great and I did 4.5 miles in one hour, mostly jogging/running at 5mph! Wonderful!!
From there, I got back to my dieting eating habits a well. Water, low salt, nothing bad save for one Cabury Creme Egg that was left over from Sunday... Oh well; 150 calories was nothing to worry about after my run :)
Finished off the day with a mall run with Mom, Alan, & Hope. I bought hand weights to use while Im on the tread mill, I am scared to even look at the ankle ones!!! Time to get some arm toning in :)
Another good day or two like yesterday and I should be back to the 252.4 I was on Friday; Easter and celebrating will be paid. Still, The 3 pounds I want to lose by Saturday for my friendly challenge should happen, but I will settle for being 252 or less for the new weigh in :)

4/9/2012: Back to work!
This Mornings weigh in: 256.4
As you know, I had just completed the Dietbet Challenge and as happily at 252. Well after posting the video, the wife and I went out to celebrate.
Honestly I was good at the start, but the supposed one meal treat turned into a weekend long celebration. With Easter Sunday being the main event. A literal candy breakfast at the BFFL's (and yes I made myself sick) with Dinner at Moms house immediately to follow. In my family, holiday dinners are seldom a dieters affair.
::sigh:: The scale doesnt lie to you when you've been bad.
But its OK. I allowed it to happen and I am over it :D. I will get back into my routine, eating right, working out, keeping the salt low, etc. I know a LOT of this holiday/celebration weight will slide off me IF I behave correctly (Salt was definitly a factor all weekend). Also looking at the calendar, I am safe from any such events until Mother's Day.
So back to work! This week's goal is to get to 250 pounds before Saturday for the next Dietbet challenge. That number would put me at exactly 10 pounds to lose for the event. This goal is not a hard line though, if I am 252 again, its no biggie. This time though, My wife will be joining me, so unless she plans to just sabotage ME, we will both be eating healthy together, a terrific habit to form :D.
Off to work :D have a great day!

4/5/2012: And the final weight is....
Today is the offical day for the Dietbet "Last Supper" Challenge. and I am glad to report that my weigh in video is (with clothing on) 254.0!!!!
I actually weighed in at 252.2 this morning, but we can't go posting naked videos for Dietbet can we ;)
While I am VERY happy about my weight, (And I might celebrate a bit with my wife today) its just a point on the road. I still have 52 pounds to go for October, and yes the weight will only get harder to lose as we move on, but thats the REAL challenge isn't it?
I would like to thank my wife who had to deal with me and friends for being so supportive! I would also like to thank All-Pro for giving me the opportunity & the guys to compete against! A big thank you to Tina from Dietbet for being the go to gal, and also for helping me with my next challenge! And finally, thank you for reading this and checking in on me :D
This blog is not at all done, by the way, I still have my journey to go and the NEXT challenge in just a little over a week. Talk to you soon!
A VERY happy Mike :D

4/4/2012: Tomorrow is the weigh in!
And I am ready for it :D
Today I will work out a little harder, eat a little less and tie up loose ends to ensure I am at my goal weight of 257. As of this morning, with clothes on, I was :D
I plan on a very low salt day, eating about 1200 calories, and as low carb and high fiber as I can. for my workout, I will definitly be sweating to the beat for a good amount of time, as long as my knee can stand for it. And even though tonight is my anniversary, I will not celebrate with food until this game is over!
It has been a crazy road... I have had my triumphs and my setback. I have gone through injury and pain. I dealt with random acts of food for both social situations and because I had my weak moments. But all and all, it was a good trip.
To my Dietbet/All-Pro friends, I hope they too have achieved the goal, I certianly dont mind not being the only "winner" here. Everyone worked hard to get those pounds off, its only fair that they share in the glory of it all!
But while some might choose to stop here, I have other goals. I want to be 200 pounds by my Birthday in October. Thats 6 months to lose 57 pounds, definitly do-able if i set my mind to it. I've lots 50 pounds, whats 50 more ;). I have about a week to get set for my next Dietbet event with my group, and that should drop me to 245 by the end of that :)
Tomorrow: the payoff, with my final weight revealed!

4/3/2012: Every day is a food celebration!
Yesterday was a good day, as I feel I am starting to get back into my groove somewhat. Did some treadmill time, walked about with my buddy at the mall (Side note: NAP blankets from brookstone ROCK!), and stayed true to my diet goals.
Being honest here, I am crash dieting a little this week to maintain my weight for the challenge. But this week is HARD. So far, We had a huge brunch to honor a departed friend, a gathering to watch Game of Thrones. Next up, the return of Anne from her vacation, my anniversary (8 years of blissful wedded insanity), and Easter Sunday. In all these events, food is a factor that needs to be addressed. It seems that in todays society, you can't have 2 or more people in the same place without bringing out a food tray!! It also seems that every day we all have some need to celebrate something!
As for my own Dietbet challenge, we now have 8 people who are playing, and several others who are interested but cannot connect through the facebook page. Summer is coming and I figure that people want to rid themselves of a few pounds before you need to lose the bulky coats and all ;). It's an awesome time for everyone to get active now.
OK off I go to do my thing. Only 4 days left (or 6 if we go by our timeline)!!

3/31/2012: Was that 253 this morning??
So I stepped on the scale and there it was... 253.6! I just need to maintain now for the week, and I am in the green for the Diet challenge :)
I was impressed, though I know it won't stay there all day (I got water to drink, food to eat, etc.) but just SEEING it was great for my mental health :), knowing I had at least for the time being passed the 11 pound mark!
Yesterday was not really healthy in terms of food choices, Lean Pocket in the morning, Green Leaf Chicken Ceaser wrap w/ a salad for lunch, and Dallas BBQ for dinner. But what I DID do for dinner was not order the biggest plate of food, just a 1/4 chicken white meat and then stayed away from 1/2 the rice and cornbread on my plate. (I'm going ALWAYS to eat cornbread, thats a mortal sin to pass it up). LOTS of veggies (steamed brocolli carrots and string beans)and water, no soda please :)
We also went to a party and I DIDN'T stay near the little spread that had out. I did pick some but better to nibble then indulge.
My knee is still in pain, so that kind of sucks. I have hit the treadmill some, but nothing major. Hopefully I will STAY OFF MY KNEE someday soon and follow the RICE treatment for a few days :P
So the plan is working, Lots of water, keeping the salt low, keeping the fiber high (Though I need that for more then weight loss), and sticking to about 1200 calories. I will exercise as best as I can as well, if I even burn off breakfast (200-300 calories) I will consider it a plus :)
In other news, I have officially created my own Dietbet challenge, and the kickoff date is April 14th at high noon! I have really taken the social dieting site to heart, and want to get my friends into it as well!

3/30/2012: One Week to go!
3 weeks have passed since the begining of the Dietbet "Last Supper" Challenge. For me, it has been a bumpy ride the last week, between my knee and the kidney stones. Thankfully, the kidney stone has for the most part, passed. I am still drinking a lot of water, and of course taking flowmax to make sure I don't have another one any time soon.
As for the knee, it has its moments. If I don't push it too much, it is ok. Advil helps. I did get on the treadmill and did a LIGHT workout, a half hour at 3mph, holding on to the rail for support. But at least I got back there, eventually I plan to get back to where I was once my knee is back to being my friend.
I've been reading up on some ways to lose a quick 5 pounds in a week, and all the information seems to work for me (water, 1200 calories, etc.). While I am at the goal line, I really want to pass it just so there is no debate, that I have taken up the challenge and passed it with flying colors.
News about the guys from the All-Pro Challenge: Out of the 6 of us, Joel "The Cannon" and I have made it to completion, "Jammin" Joe & Todd "The Hungry Genius" are over half way there, and Big Will "The Champ" and Eric "Silo" are under 50%
As for Dietbet; I actually believe the social dieting works for me, While we have taken our pot shots back and forth, it was all in good fun, and we are actually quite supportive of each other! After the challenge, I plan to get some of my close friends together and do my part to rally the them for some weight loss :). While I like the All-Pro gang, I believe I need some closer interaction to be more motivated for the next round!!!
So today, some more light work on the treadmill, and continuing where I left off yesterday, diet wise. I have made it clear to my wife this is a VERY important week for me, as its the make or break to the end of the challenge

3/29/2012: Rebound
I was very bad yesterday. Seriously depressed, I didnt care about my diet at all. I mean, I've tried to maintain, but last night I just fell into a real funk.
Its just one bad day, I am over it, and will move on.
I am feeling in a somewhat better mindset though. Despite my knee pain, I do feel better then yesterday. I will start my diet again today, and be as careful as I can be. I have 8 days to get back to 254 and complete the Dietbet Challenge.
At least the stone seems to have passed as I am feeling no pain downstairs, so I can worry less there. My knee it seems has other ideas. I am doing what they call RICE treatment (Rest, Ice, Compression, & Elevation). Add in Advil and maybe my knee wont trouble me too much. If the pain continues after the weekend, I will definitly see a doctor.
Here to an interesting week, hopefully it ends right where I need to be! At the weight and in the money!

3/28/12: Kidney Stone & Knee
Sorry its been a few days since I posted or anything, I have been going through a rough patch.
First, my knee is totally shot. I don't know how or what I did to it, but I can barely walk on it, never mind hit my treadmill.
Second, I seem to have goten "lucky" with a kidney stone over the weekend :( Painful enough to go to the ER and sit there for 8+ hours. I am hoping that it has passed, but I cant be sure until I am pain free for a few days.
So the one-two punch has messed up my diet goals. To combat the stone, I am drinking a huge amount of water, and because I can't move my body, I've become very stationary. I believe the couple of pounds I put on over the last few days is from water, but I can't be sure. Finally, because of this I have been really depressed that after all this work, I might not reach the goal for the Dietbet Challenge. to be at the goal only for it to be snatched away really would suck!
I will try to stay positive however. I still have a week plus, and If I'm very careful, I might be able to fend off any weight gain until after the challenge.

3/23/12: Two Weeks, 9 pounds!
Todays weigh in: 256.4
I am no longer posting my food/calorie intake here, I have it over at MyFitnessPal.com, and feel its kinda silly to post it all twice. If your interested in my food intake details, friend me there if your on it!!!
It's now 2 weeks into Dietbets "Last Supper" challenge, & I have lost about 9 pounds! While I would love to be 250 for the April 6th weigh in, I am so not worried about it. I should easily drop the last 2 pounds pretty to cross the goal line :D
That being said, I still have my 200 pounds by October goal... So I might not be as intense as I am for the challenge, but I will still be doing what needs to be done to shed the weight.
I bought some cool ankle weights to add 10 pounds to my workouts (putting my workouts at where I started 2 weeks ago). They are pretty comfortable, but at 5 pounds a leg, my body has definitly reacted to them. I walked home in them after I bought them and went about 2 miles with them on. I was definitly feeling the burn! I don't think I can use them with the treadmill at the moment, and I also might need to pull out some of the weights until my body gets used to them for now.
Speaking of working out, my primary source of exercise has been walking and the treadmill. I am happy to say, I can now keep up with the "weight loss" program on the machine. Its an easy 2.5 mph with a 5 degree incline followed by a 5mph with 0 degree incline. The timer sets at 30:00 to start and does 5 cycles. Adding time increases the lenght of that cycle, and doesnt add extra cycles to the end of the program. Its a low burn, but it feels good, and I'm sweating by the end of it. It doesnt sound like much, but at the start up rate, thats 15 mins of 5mph running, meaning its over a mile :)

3/21/12 I'm stuck!
This mornings weigh in: 258.4
I am not happy, I have been working out, dieting, and trying my hardest to get this weight off, and it is just not happening. I am kind of stuck at this 6+ pound mark.
Yes I know it doesn't happen overnight, but I have a lot of pounds I can lose without breaking a sweat (pun intended). I am sure my body has hit the dreaded starvation mode, where losing weight seems to be impossible
To win the Dietbet challenge, I need to be 254 (11 pounds) by April 6th. True its only 5 pounds, but they seem to be REALLY stuck to me. Am I am starting to get frustrated, as well as obsessing over them. My goal was to hit 250 for the end of the contest, But the way its going, I dont see myself losing 8.4 pounds in 2 weeks. So I will keep with the challenge, and try my best to hit that 5 pounds.
I will get back to my normal routine of posting and tweeting, etc. Hopefully that helps :). Talk soon!

3/17/12 I ran
I ran on Friday, not much, but enough to be happy about it. I alternated running at 5 mph with walking at 3.5 mph. It was a light workout, mind you. Just about 1/2 hour and a twenty minute warmup, both of which was at a 3 degree incline. It was about 3/4 plus some extra time (about 2 minutes), but I havent done that forever!
I will re-edit the post later, and add my food intake, of course if you have my fitness pal app, you can friend me and see that for yourself!!!
Happy St. Paricks Day everyone! Don't eat too much Corned beef & Cabbage!

Today marks a week for the Dietbet promotion. It has been a lot of fun and very motivating to be part of it all. I have been (mostly) good during the 1st week, but we still have 3 weeks to go!!! All my group has posted there numbers, and everyone is losing... ahh the power of cash! I have been thinking of running a game after I am done with this, to keep the motivation up. Hopefully people will see the results, and join me in the next round :D
Yesterday, I ate pretty light, in fact, I only consumed about 1/2 of my daily intake, and other then a little tummy grumble after work, I was fine. However, I somehow gained a couple of pounds!! I Think that I just went too hard on myself and hit starvation mode last night, and my body is now rebelling. So today, I will just take it a little bit easy. I shall eat 3 full meals and do just a light exercise on the treadmill. Last thing I want to do is crash hard.
Off to relax! Talk to you tomorrow!

Weigh In: 259

Can of Tuna
Mayo (2 Tbsp)
Pickle
Diet Green Tea
Dinner:
Shimp Appitizer
Prime Rib
Twice Baked Potato

Exercise:
Walking: 10 minute warm-up, 2.5mph, 0 degree incline. 60 minute @ 3.9mph, 4.5 degree incline, 10 minute cool down, 2.5mph, ) degree
Another day, Another BIG meal. We were going over tho our Friend's house, and she already told us (over a week ago, before the game) that it was going to be A prime Rib diner!! Again I prepared for it by simply not eating too much. Honestly, I was still full from Wo Hop on Tuesday, So I skipped breakfast, and had a lo cal tuna lunch (which I actually enjoy). I knew what I was in for!
A word about Anne, she reminds me of my grandmother in that she cooks for armies! Shes just LOVES to cook, and has a cooking background. Her house has a professional kitchen in it. She makes some of the most awesome food you have EVER tasted (Debi Agrees). This can be a dangerous thing to my diet sometimes, as we hang out alot with Anne.
We got "Leftovers" from a party she cooked for on Sunday, Though the food she prepared was so much better as a leftover then I have had in resturaunts. Shrimp in blankets with a sweet and salty kind of dip, Prime rib with sauce, and twice baked potatoes that were to die for. and for dessert, Debi had found some sweet deal Strawberries that we had with home made sugar free whip cream.. yumms
Surpisingly, even with all the food I eat, the worst carb offender was the potato, which came in at hefty 46g. My total intake was about 75g, so almost 2/3s! YIKES!
Tonight the Misses is out until late, so I will definitly be eating light today. Also its the start of my work week, so more calories to be burnt there :D. Plus If its anything like yesterday, I nice treadmill workout will drop some more water weight at mid-day :D
Have a great day!!!

3/14/12: Wo Hop is NOT Diet food
Weigh In: 260.6
Food:
Breakfast
Breakfast Quesadilla
Diet Green Tea
Apple
Lunch
Can of Tuna
Mayo (2 Tbsp)
Dill Pickle
Veggie Salad
Light Balsamic Vinaigrette (2Tbsp)
Diet Green Tea
Dinner
Wo Hop
Small Wonton Soup
Pork Fried Rice (1/3 plate)
Chicken w/ Mixed Vegetables
Moo Shu Pork (w/ 2 pancakes)
Steamed Broccoli
Snacks
S/F Cherry Jell-O
S/F Cool Whip topping (2Tbsp)
Total Calories: 1,847
Exercise
Power Walking, 1 hour 3.5mph, 4.5 degree incline
My day started out just fine, I ate my food, did my walking (with some pain in my leg mind you) and generally kept it light. I knew I was going to Wo Hop last night, so I left a LOT of calories to enjoy myself
Still, I over did it, The food is just to damn good to pass up. All the "little of this, little of that" tends to add up quickly, it sneeks up on you big time. I ate about 300 more calories then my personal max allowance is and about 700 calories more then usual, YIKES!
Was it worth it? Of course it was, because 1) Its early in the game and I can fix it pretty easy and 2) Because I learned that by "preparing" for it, I actually let my guard down and gave myself an out to let go. (And 3) It just good & yummy full out, but we can't talk about it like that)
That being said, I am STILL full from last night, and have no desire to eat. It's not guilt or anything honest. I felt bloated the whole night. I will skip breakfast, and do a light lunch, as we are again going to be eating "real world"" food tonight: Prime Rib. This time though, I will just stop at one serving, thank you.

The Food:

WW Egg muffin w/ Can bacon/cheese
Arizona diet green Ice tea
Lunch
WW Turkey w/ mash potatoes & gravy
Arizona diet breen ice tea
S/F Jell-o cherry w/ S/F Cool Whip

Total Calories: 1,349
Excercise
Walking
4.25 Miles 4.5 degree incline, 3.5(+)mph, 1 hour
So I look at what I ate yesterday, and see it was a lot, but still came in under the 1,500 calorie mark. It's not even a week into the contest, and I have already lost almost 7 pounds! Let's see if I can get a total of 15 pounds off by the final weigh in ;)
If we go back to when I decided it was time to lose the baggage, its about 50+ pounds total :D that puts me at the middle point of my journey to 200 pounds. Awesome!
Today is kinda yucky out, and in that respect, I am glad we bought the treadmill! I have ZERO excuse to not get my walking in today. I kinda want something else to use, so maybe an excersise bike? Debi & I kinda want some gym toys for upstate anyway, so what the harm in looking about. Off to look for a used one.
BTW, thank you to everyone who is reading this and sending me back comments, love and encouragement!! Good to know I got a great group of people behind me :D Talk to you soon!!!

Woo Hoo 259 baby!
This mornings weigh in: 259.4 (-5.6)
Thanks to the fast forward of Daylight savings time, My Sunday was a 2 meal deal.(Yes I Know I missed Satuday, but thats how it goes sometimes)
Breakfast Quesadilla
Low Carb Shake
Chicken Ceasar Salad
Diet Pepsi
Sugar free Jello
Sugar free Cool Whip
Good morning :D
Looking at the number above this morning on my scale made me VERY happy. I couldn't believe I saw 5 pounds drop away since the weigh in on Friday!!! I am 1/2 way to the Dietbet/All-pro goal of 4%. Don't think for ONE second I will stop dieting when I hit the 11 pound goal though, because while this game/contest is short term, I still have my 200 pound Ideal weight by October goal. I know its not the 167 pound weight that the calculators say I should be at, but I think that number just might be too much for my body. I dont want to look like I NEED to eat, lol.
I guess I am getting used to the 1500 calorie limit I have myself on, as I haven't felt hungry at all. In Fact I've been leaving calories on the board, which is probably not a good thing in the long run.
So heres what I am doing:
Daily vitamin/Fiber (Doctor's orders, not totally diet related)
1500 calorie diet
100 carb total target zone
Walking, or other butt moving type of activity then watching TV all day
I have an app (Thx again Lisette) that tracks my food intake, and post calorie burns for excercise. I DO NOT "eat back" those burnt calories! Why? 1) the numbers are suspect because they deal with general guidelines, and 2) because I dont see it as :I walked two miles, I can have a dessert now" kind of thing. If I am starving, I can have something extra and not feel too off about it though.
Anyway, time to get moving!!! Talk to you tomorrow!

Saturday 3/10/2012
Weigh in: 263.4 (-1.6)
Food:
Due to contest, no breakfast
Lunch:
APX 3 Slices of pizza from the contest
Water
Snack
3 mini cupcakes
Go Lean Chocolate Caramel Bar
Total Calories: 1025
Total Carbs: 154
Exercise:
Walking, 2 hours, slow pace(2mph) 2+ Miles: 290 calories Burned
It was a unique day, with the Dietbet contest and all. No Breakfast, a huge slice of pizza (plus some)around lunch, walking and seeing a weakness of mine, the mini cupcake place (I had 3, but it was worth it) and then I just wasn't hungry around dinner, so I opted for a snack Kashi bar. The lack of dinner was a mistake, however. I was getting hungry towards the end of my night, and had a slight headache this morning from eating.
It was nice to see the scale dip lower this morning however. 263.4 makes me feel good about what I am doing. For the contest, I need to hit 257 with my clothes on, that's 254 at home. I would like to just hit 250 at home and know I am golden :)
I've been reading the food labels and the reports from my app, and I don't like the sodium levels I am hitting. Everything I am eating coming out of little red boxes, and just are LOADED with the stuff. I am concerned I'm trading weight loss for high blood pressure. I need to learn how to cook.. and NOT like my grandmother, who serving sizes are legendary!
Today I will play some trance cardio and power walk on my treadmill for a bit, but its going to be a light day otherwise, my legs are feeling it ;)
Talk soon!

Its time to start!
I had a great time in Times Square at Ripley's Believe It Or Not with the gang from Dietbet. Lots of people, lots of cameras and definitly lots of PIZZA! (wow those slices were huge!).
Now that all the glitz and fun parts are done, the real work begins.
I weighed in at 268, with my clothes on. Not bad, as I knew from my home scale I was at 265. I need to lose 11 pounds in 28 days. I figured I ate about 3 slices of your average pizza (I ate less then one for the contest, plus some pubicity eating, lol). Joel has to lose something similar, and Big Will needs to lose some 18-20 pounds.
After the event, my friend and I walked down from Times Square to Christopher St. No race walking, just casual looking about the city type. We then hopped on the F train at W4th and came back to Brooklyn. Prior to the gig, I used up some of my nervous energy on the treadmill for a little over a mile in a half hour. I would like to think I put paid to the pizza contest part by now.
Thinking ahead, I need to be careful about my eating habits. There is money, and more importantly bragging right in the All-Pro camp at stake. Sure these guys can wolf down more pizza faster and better then I can, but I want to win this event, for personal as well as to show them I'm not just the voice of competetive eating!
Let the game begin!!

Todays the day! In about 3 hours, I will be eating a huge slice of pizza and then getting weighed in for the Dietbet contest in front of Ripley's in Times Square! This should be a good game, and I wish everyone luck!! I know how hard it is to lose weight!
Looking at the lst few days, seems I am up on my carbs again. Carbs are the enemy!!! Ideally, I'd like to be somewhere around 100 carbs for the day. When I started out, I did watch them better, and I attibute that to the shed pounds.
I weighed in this morning at 265, but I expect that number to be higher later, As I will have my clothes on!!! Still it should be in the area on 10 pounds for me to lose in 28 days? I can do this!!!!
The Sisco "Kitty" (Yup, gonna wear my black ears and tail) is ready to rock til I drop the pounds!!! See you at Ripley's!!

Thoughts of the day:
Woke up to an extra pound somehow... Thats fine so long as it doesnt happen again!! I am using an Android app the Lisette brought to my attention, and while its pretty cool, dunno if its 100% accurate unless you scan food in. Still better a slighty off estimate then just a general idea.
The Dietbet contest is only 24 hours away! I'm kinda stoked, as I havent seen some of my eater friends for a while. Its going to be fun to play against them, but I hope that All-Pro gets REALLY busy locally over the next month (hehehe), remember, I'm the VOICE not an actual eater :D. For the event, I think I will wear my cat ears and tail... you know, to mess with there heads =^.^=
So, The treadmill is working, the app is in place, and the will is strong to get to my goal. Time to get my game on!!!

Wednesday morning weigh in
Its a little over 48 hours before the Dietbet contest, and I want to get my mind thinking diet again. So with that, I did my Morning weight in.
The scale read 265. Thats pretty good, considering I havent really tried to diet the last few weeks. When I stopped dieting about a month ago, I was at 263. So plus 2 pounds about?
Thankfully, I think some of my diet habits stuck with me, and most likely saved my bacon from going back up in weight. I was over 300 lbs (I say about 306, Debi put me at about 311) when I decided I needed to get my behind in gear.
The key has been to enjoy myself, but not over indulge. So ONE donut instead of say... 6. I am into sweets, and that will probably never change. I also mindlessly eat when I am bored, THAT has to stop!
Also I have tried to take a friends advice to heart, no eating after 9pm. This actually works for me because I liked to eat after a gig at 3 or 4 am, and then I went right to bed. So I am trying not to do that anymore.
As I've said, I will be doing the morning weigh ins, maybe with my goal for the day (walking, etc.). I will also write about the foods I ate during the day.
Later, I will do some walking (need to hit the post office, about a mile each way) and some other stuff. Will post about that all later :D Thanks for reading, and have a great day!!!

T-Minus 4 days to the Dietbet kickoff & I am excited!!!
Hey gang!
As most of you know, I am really trying to lose some weight, Its been a good start so far, but I have kinda let it fall to the side some. I still want to make my goal of around 200 lbs by my birthday in October! I honestly don't remember when I was 200 pounds, maybe in college?
Sometimes you get help in ways you never expect though. A group that many of you know is near and dear to me, All-Pro eaters, somehow hooked up with business called Dietbet to do a promotion. Yup you read that right, my competitive eater group is working with a diet social network. They extended an offer to me to be part of the promotion, and I accepted it. While I am usually the "Velvet Voice" and host of the eating events, I don't see anything wrong with being a contestant to LOSE weight! ;)
The promtion/game/contest kicks off this Friday March 9th @ Ripley's Believe It Or Not with a pizza eating contest (If you can come watch, that would be cool BTW) and then we do the weigh in. I have 4 weeks to lose 4% of my body weight. I'm not shy, I am about 270 pounds, so that is about 12 pounds I must lose in 28 days.
So I decided to start up my old blog (I cleaned it out too, everything was dated from like 2008/2009), and talk about what I am doing over the course of the next 4+ weeks. Eating habits, work-outs, daily weigh ins, etc. By having it out there for all to see, I think it will help with my motivation, and if I am not up to snuff, you gys will know when to yell at me ;)
Hopefully, you come by and check in on me, and leave some feedback, good or if needed, some encouragement. I know some of you have offered your help taking my butt to the gym, etc and YES I will be very interested in getting out with you guys to do some of that:) After all, I wanna kick ass in this game, not only because I want to lose the weight, but there is CASH involved if I make the goal.
Right now, I am upstate with the Debster, and of course, I am kinda letting my eating habits go a bit (I know, I'm bad). Come wednesday however, I will get back into the swing of things, and then REALLY start to work on my diet Friday!
Come back Wednesday for my 1st private weight in prior to the kickoff! Wish me luck!!
